Small Business Saturday Campaign Roundup (11/30/13)

By

Small Business Saturday is an American shopping holiday observed the Saturday after Thanksgiving that supports small and local businesses, in contrast to the superstores that get attention on Black Friday and the ecommerce retailers that focus on Cyber Monday.

We’d like to take this opportunity to showcase some campaigns supporting small and local businesses. Take a look:

E-Pub Co-op

500 Turkeys for 500 FamiliesLocation: Seattle, Washington

Dana Sitar is creating E-Pub Co-op as a way to provide resources and support to entrepreneurial authors that would normally be provided by a traditional publisher, such as editing, feedback, design, and marketing help.

A New Leash on Life

Thanksgivukkah ParodyLocation: Culver City, California

Alexandro Garcia was frustrated with how difficult it can be to walk multiple dogs at the same time. Then one day, he got creative and developed the idea for the TooferOne leash. He’s developing a business for this new product and will be donating proceeds from every leash sold to animal shelter groups.

Building a Luxury Hotel One Room at a Time

Low Glycemic Load Happiness RecipesLocation: Boston, Massachusetts

Richard Rogers and Victoria Stock have created Spare Suite in Boston as an alternative to hotel accommodations. Travelers stay locally, in a pristine apartment, exceeding first-class, five-star standards for design & cleanliness. Their test program has been successful, and they’d like to create more units.

PeaceKeeper Cause-Metics

The First Fifty YearsLocation: New York, New York

PeaceKeeper Cause-Metics of New York took a direct hit from Hurricane Sandy last year. The warehouse storing their inventory was flooded, and their computers and paper files were destroyed. Jody Weiss is looking to relaunch her brand that gives donations to urgent human rights issues globally.
